Maran HaRav Asher Weiss shlita

Rav Asher Weiss shlita is among the most renowned and respected halachic authorities of the current period.

A true Gadol Be-Yisrael, his unique blend of extraordinary Torah knowledge and profound insight brings hundreds and thousands of disciples to hear his shiurim, which are given weekly all over Israel, Rav Weiss also gives special shiurim to groups of doctors, lawyers, and other professionals seeking halachic guidance in their specialist fields.

Rav Weiss is a prolific writer, and has written a hugely popular series of sefarim of shiurim arranged according to the weekly portions, a Pesach Haggadah (which has been translated into English), books on the yearly festivals (Halachah and Aggadah – also translated into English), books of chiddushim on different tractates of Shas, and (most recently) a book of Shut (Questions and Answer) that was extremely well received by an unprecedented spectrum of the Torah community.

In addition to his shiurim and writing, Rav Weiss is the Rosh Kollel of one of the most prestigious Kollelim in Jerusalem, where excellent and diligent Torah scholars thirstily drink his waters and receive training in the paths of halachic ruling and Dayanus, and go on to serve communities as Rabbanim and Dayanim.

Rav Weiss’s Beis Din, Darchei Torah, is attached to the Kollel, and leading Torah scholars from the Kollel take an active role in its function. The Beis Din (over which Rav Weiss presides) has gained a sterling reputation as a court that dispatches learned, fair, and sensitive judgment.

Beyond all of the above, Rav Weiss also serves as the rabbi of the world renowned Shaarei Zedek hospital, and is responsible for answering weighty questions that require a blend of Torah erudition, a background in medical knowledge, and sensitivity to the issues involved.

In spite of his many duties and engagements, Rav Weiss makes himself readily available to the public, and greets each person with a heartfelt smile and with genuine care. He is loved and admired not only as a Torah giant but even as a community leader (both of his local community and of all the broader circles he touches) who never tires of helping the needy with whatever he is able to do.
